Frédéric Chambert quitte le Capitole de Toulouse pour l'Opéra de Santiago du Chili

Frédéric Chambert, directeur artistique du Théâtre du Capitole, vient d'être nommé directeur général du Théâtre Municipal de Santiago du Chili, maison d'opéra de premier plan au Chili et en Amérique Latine. Ancien directeur adjoint l'Opéra national de Paris, il a pris ses fonctions à Toulouse en 2009. Hispanophone, amoureux des cultures d'Amérique du Sud, il a été choisi parmi 38 candidats au départ, pour un contrat de six années renouvelables.

Très attiré par l'offre, peut-être un peu poussé au départ, Frédéric Chambert prendra ses fonctions à la fin de la saison 2015-2016. Son successeur à Toulouse n'est pas encore désigné.

Conference “EZ MUSIC”

This conference explores the disciplinary challenges and aesthetic questions presented by “easy music”: simple, generic, kitschy, or trivial music, usually for amateur performers or listeners. Examples might include music for children, community or church choirs, pedagogical compositions or practices, and music that endeavors to be low-brow or populist in spirit.

Musicologists have typically studied easy music in terms of social questions such as political frameworks or the market place. It is rarely treated as an object of knowledge or aesthetic appreciation with distinctive claims on our attention. We ask what critical approaches are necessary to integrate musical discussion of these easy repertoires into social frameworks. In short, how can we account for the musical status of these objects and what critical tools are necessary to engage with them as music?

We invite contributions from disciplines beyond the musicologies, including literary studies, history and sociology, performance and media studies, and gender studies.

The keynote speakers will be Emanuele Senici (Università di Roma) and Mitchell Morris (UCLA).
