The Centro Studi Opera Omnia Luigi Boccherini of Lucca, Palazzetto Bru Zane, and the AssociationAmici di Groppoli are pleased to invite submissions of proposals for the symposium :

The Staging of Verdi & Wagner Operas

to be held in Pistoia, from Friday 13 toSunday 15 September 2013.

Organized in conjunction with the bicenteray of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi andRichard Wagner, this conference aims to deepen the existing understanding of operastaging through examination of the the works of these two composers, focusing on theeconomical, sociological and technological factors connected with opera production. Theconference also welcomes studies on staging, with a particular focus on visual aspectsand their relationship with theatrical space: the tradition of establishing each visualelement in writing (like the livret de mise en scène in France or the disposizioni sceniche in Italy)reflects the importance that staging had acquired during the nineteenth century in thesphere of musical drama.

The conference is open to a range of paper proposals, but the scientific committeewould particularly welcome studies of the following :

• Theatre and Scene: Spaces and Techniques

• Scenographies for Verdi and Wagner Operas: Originality and Tradition

• The Parisian livrets de mise en scène of the Operas of Verdi and Wagner

• Verdi and the disposizioni sceniche

• Verdi/Wagner and Stage Directors, Scenographers, Costume Designers, Stage Managers, Coreographers, and so forth

• Clients and Impresarios of Verdi and Wagner Operas

The official languages of the conference will be English, French, German, andItalian. Papers selected for presentation at the conference will be published in amiscellaneous volume.

Papers are limited to twenty minutes in length, allowing time for questions anddiscussion.

Please submit an abstract of no more than 500 words and one page of biography.

All proposals should be emailed to: conferences@luigiboccherini.org by no later than Sunday 14 April 2013.

With your proposal please include your name, contactdetails (postal address, e-mail and telephone number) and (if applicable) your affiliation.

The committee will make its final decisions on the abstracts by the 15th of May2013, and contributors will be informed immediately thereafter. Further informationabout the programme, registration, travel and accommodation will be announced afterthat date.

Joan Matabosch remplace Gérard Mortier à la tête de l'Opéra de Madrid

Le directeur du théâtre du Liceu de Barcelone, Joan Matabosch, a été nommé mercredi à la tête du Teatro Real, l'Opéra de Madrid, en remplacement de Gérard Mortier.

Le Teatro Real a souhaité un prompt rétablissement à Gérard Mortier, actuellement soigné en Allemagne pour un cancer.

34^e édition du festival d'Ambronay

Le festival de musique baroque d'Ambronay, inaugure ses festivités aujourd'hui, avec les Vêpres de Monteverdi, sous la direction de Leonardo García Alarcón, en résidence depuis quatre ans à Ambronay. Il dirigera également l'Orfeo de Monteverdi.

L'ensemble La Rêveuse et la comédienne Louise Moaty emmèneront le public du chapiteau au pays des Mille et une Nuits.

Les Turqueries des Esprits Animaux, les Nuits occitanes de Paulin Bündgen, Hayim de Canticum Novum, la Folia revisitée par le quartet Arfi et l'ensemble Aperto Libro, ou l'Invitation au voyage de Stéphanie d'Oustrac emprunteront aussi à l'imaginaire de l'Orient et d'ailleurs.

Sont aussi convoqués pour cette édition William Christie et ses Arts florissants, Christophe Rousset, Hervé Niquet, Jordi Savall, Paul McCreesh et René Jacobs, Philippe Jaroussky.

Les Rêveries électroniques d'Arandel à la Tour Dauphine précèderont la Nuit du Rêve (28 septembre), à la veille d'un récital d'Enrico Onofri.

Le festival fête les 20 ans de l'Académie baroque européenne d'Ambronay, une pépinière qui a déjà formé plus de mille artistes, instrumentistes, chanteurs et danseurs; et de donner carte blanche à de jeunes ensembles comme Incastri, Epsilon ou La Volute.

Radio Classique se politise

Radio Classique n'est pas un robinet à musique, selon Étienne Mougeotte (quoi que), qui présentait la nouvelle organisation des programmes.

La radio musicale du groupe Les Échos, touchant les auditeurs les plus aisés, aime inviter les grands patrons. En partenariat avec LCI, la matinale sera liée à l'invité politique de Guillaume Durant.

La radio ambitieuse lance deux chroniques « résonances » et « Des idées neuves » (rien que cela), sur les grandes questions d'actualité, mais le week end, le philosophe Luc Ferry présentera « Les mots de la philo », ce qui réduit considérablement les horizons ambitieux et la nouveauté des idées.

Pour le reste, c'est quand même le robinet à extraits de musique.

Selon françois Morel, Radio Classique perd de l'argent, mais elle a la chance de faire partie d'un grand groupe et il y a des activités où on accepte un certain montant de perte...
