Heroische in der Musik : Begriffswandel und musikalische Analyse

Das Heroische ist eine etablierte Kategorie zur Beschreibung und Interpretation musikalischer Phänomene, ja bringt vielleicht ein zentrales Attribut europäischer Kunstmusik im allgemeinen auf den Begriff. Für den Kompositionsstil des ‚mittleren Beethoven', die Stimmgattung ‚Heldentenor' und barocke Opern- und Kantatentypen (opere und cantate eroiche) sind Assoziationen mit dem Heroischen Namen gebend. Jüngere Forschungen zum Virtuosentum haben auf die enge Verschränkung zwischen Virtuosität und Heroisierung hingewiesen.

Im Gegensatz zur Bedeutung des Heroischen für den Diskurs über Musik steht die Unbestimmtheit, mit der der Terminus auf heterogene musikalische Phänomene, Werke und Stile angewendet wird. Denotationen und Konnotationen werden meist als gegebene implizit vorausgesetzt. Doch: sind die Merkmale des Heldischen, die in den o.g. Beispielen die Verwendung des Heroismusbegriff anregten, tatsächlich jeweils dieselben - ungeachtet des gemeinsamen Begriffes?

Ausgeblendet blieben bisher die jeweiligen Bedeutungsspektren des Heroischen sowohl in der Verwendungsweise des aktuellen Autors oder der Autorin sowie im jeweiligen kulturellen Kontext des untersuchten musikalischen Phänomens. Das hat zur Folge, dass das Heroische als Bestimmungskategorie von musiksprachlichen Mitteln und musikalischen Stilen gleichermaßen diffus blieb. Welche kompositions- und/oder aufführungstechnischen Mittel evozieren bei (zeitgenössischen und/oder historischen) Perzipienten Assoziationen mit heroischen Ideen und Attributen und was für ein Diskurs über das Heroische oder den Held/die Heldin liegt den Assoziationen jeweils zugrunde? Welche Heldenkonzepte wurden in der Musikhistoriographie in Bezug auf Musik implizit vorausgesetzt und welchen Einfluss hatten sie auf das Verstehen und die Bewertung von Musik sowie die Musikwissenschaft in ihrer Geschichte? Wieweit lässt sich ein Wandel des Heroischen als musikhermeneutische Kategorie nachweisen? Und - als Frage für die Abschlussdiskussion der Konferenz - weist der Begriff über die kulturgeschichtlichen Brüche und Wandlungen hinweg konzeptionelle Konstanten auf, die sich gleichermaßen auch in der Musik aufzeigen lassen, oder ist die Kontinuität lediglich über Familienähnlichkeiten (im Sinne Wittgensteins) gewährleistet?

Die Konferenz beabsichtigt einen doppelten - sowohl musikwissenschaftlichen als auch kulturhistorischen - Erkenntnisgewinn: Ziel ist zum einen ein systematisches Verständnis des Heroischen in der Musik - von der Antike bis zur jüngsten Gegenwart -, insbesondere dessen Manifestation in diversen musikalischen Mitteln. Zum anderen soll die Untersuchung musikalischer Phänomene, Perspektiven auf das Heroische, Heroisierungen und Heldennarrative in der Kultur-, Sozial- und Politikgeschichte freigeben und auf diese Weise zum eingehenderen Wissen über verschiedene Heroismuskonzepte in der Geschichte generell beitragen.

Vorschläge zu folgenden und ähnlichen Themenbereichen (hier in alphabetischer Reihenfolge aufgelistet) werden bis zum 31. Dezember 2011 erbeten:

Konferenzsprachen sind Deutsch und Englisch. Besonderen Vorzug erhalten diejenigen Proposals, die Erkenntnisgewinn hinsichtlich beider Perspektiven - kulturwissenschaftliches und musikanalytisches, musiksprachliches Wissen - in Aussicht stellen. From Adele to Zeca Afonso : The Singer-Songwriter in Europe

Call for Papers

University of Leeds, 13-14 September 2012

The label singer-songwriter has been applied to a wide range of artists, including Joan Manuel Serrat, Paolo Conte, Véronique Sanson and John Lennon. The use of this and related terms (auteur-compositeur-interprète, cantautore and cantautor to name but three) and interpretations of the singer-songwriter's work differ significantly according to the cultures in which such music is produced and received.

With this conference we aim to question understandings of this figure across Europe, including the United Kingdom and Ireland, to explore the various contexts (e.g. linguistic, musical and ideological) in which the singer-songwriter works and is listened to, and to bring together in dialogue academics from various disciplinary backgrounds working on popular music. As modern linguists, we are particularly interested in interrogating the ways in which our field can contribute to the knowledge in this area.

Papers from all disciplinary perspectives will be considered. Issues for debate include:

Gender and sexuality
Geographies of the singer-songwriter
Politics and protest
Authenticity and commodification
Fandom and audiences
The singer-songwriter in the digital age

Guest speakers include David Looseley (University of Leeds), Nicola Dibben (University of Sheffield) and Lucy O'Brien (Goldsmith's College, London). Information on those attending the conference from the music industry will be circulated as confirmation is received.

Deadline for proposals is Thursday 5 April 2012. These should include the title of the conference paper, an abstract of 200 words, and your name, institution, a brief bio-bibliography and contact details. Individual papers should be no more than 20 minutes long. Proposals for 90-minute panels of three speakers will also be considered. Papers are to be delivered in English.

Workshop Chinese Instruments and westenr Museums

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Leiden, The Netherlands, 13-16 septembre 2012

From 13 to 16 September 2012 the CHIME Foundation and Leiden University in The Netherlands will host a workshop on the topic of Chinese Instruments and Western Museums. The aim is to share and exchange information in the realm of Chinese musical instruments, in an open, informal atmosphere. The meeting should be of interest to museum curators and others who work with instrument collections, and scholars active in the realm of Chinese instruments and instrumental music.

The meeting takes place in the wake of the initiation of the MIMO project (Musical Instrument Museums Online) which was started in September 2011. MIMO opened a public online access point to the musical instruments catalogues of the project's affiliated museums in Europe (https://www.mimo-international.com/). This massive body of information will serve as a useful resource for the study of world music cultures. The database will hopefully benefit a wide group of users, including the source communities, music and creative industries and the general public. The MIMO project raises important issues related to music research, such as the relationship between academic study and the public exhibition of musical instrument collections, as well as the links between specific instrument collections in European museums, and how these items can continuously reshape the understanding of musical pasts and can open potential possibilities for future musical practices.

To facilitate exchange between museum curators and academic researchers, the CMA (Chinese Music Archive) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the CHIME Foundation in Leiden (European Foundation for Chinese Music Research) and Leiden University jointly organize the upcoming meeting in Leiden, which will feature individual papers, practical demonstrations, discussions, films and some performances. Museum curators, academic researchers and independent scholars are invited to submit proposals on, but not limited to, the following topics:

1. The relationship between Chinese musical instruments and European museums

2. Biographies of individual Chinese musical instruments and/or a special collection of Chinese instruments currently housed at European museums

3. Chinese musical instruments within and beyond museum display

4. Potential collaborative research and database creation projects

5. Chinese musical instruments and European (post)colonialism

The languages of the meeting will be English and Chinese. Please submit your abstract proposal for 20- to 30-minute presentations in English (max. 350 words) to ciwm2012 at gmail.com on or before 15 April 2012. There are possibilities for early acceptance of papers for those who need to rely on this for grant applications (please indicate need for urgent reply when you submit your abstract). The final result of our selection will be announced by 30 April 2012. Karol Beffa obtient la chaire de création artistique du Collège de France pour 2012-2013

Depuis 1985, la France met un pays à l'honneur à travers des initiatives culturelle, artistiques et sportives.

Plus de 300 artistes seront mis à contribution 350 artistes, avec 18 expositions, dont les photographes Toso Dabac et Duro Janekovi, 16 représentations théâtrales, Les médiathèqyes s'ouvriront aux écrivains.

L'auteur de bandes dessinée Danijel Zezelj présentera sa performance de live painting en compagnie de ses musiciens américains Jessica Lurie et Brandon Seabrook.

Strasbourg chants populaires et Amiens cinéma, Nice et Grenoble seront sportives, Paris gastronomique.

Le Praemium Imperiale et ses 150 000 euros pour Phil Glass

Phil Glass

Le Praemium Imperiale de l'Association japonaise des beaux-arts a été attribué pour la musique à Phil Glass. Le Prix est d'un montant de 150 000 euros. Avant lui, Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Seiji Ozawa l'avaient obtenu. Cette année Le peintre Cai Guo-Qiang (Chine), Le sculpteur Cecco Bonanotte (Italie), L'architecte Henning Larsen (Danemark), La danseuse Yoko Morishita (Japon) ont également été honorés de ce prix.

Concours d'excellence de la Confédératrion musicale de France en mars à Vincennes

Le prochain Concours d'excellence aura lieu samedi 23 et dimanche 24 mars 2013 au Conservatoire de Vincennes. Les oeuvres imposées et les conditions d'inscription seront communiquées en novembre.

Organisé par la Confédération musicale de France, depuis plus de cinquante ans, le Concours d'excellence est une étape importante pour les musiciens qui souhaitent faire carrière et un point culminant pour les musiciens amateurs.

Il s'adresse à tous les musiciens, sans limite d'âge, titulaires du diplôme de fin de 3^e cycle ou d'un diplôme équivalent, mention Bien au minimum. Il est ouvert à tous les types d'instruments ainsi qu'à la formation musicale.
