Galilei Galileo
1564-1642

On retient surtout de Galilée son oeuvre scientifique : Loi de la chute des corps, composition de la vitesse, loi d'inertie, son parti pris pour le système de Copernic, qui lui vaut de comparaître devant le tribunal de l’inquisition (1633). Toutefois, il ne contourne pas la tradition de lier les mathématiques au calcul des intervalles musicaux. À ce sujet, il est sollicité par le Père Mersenne, qui a traduit par ailleurs deux de ses ouvrages en français : Les nouvelles idées de Galilée en 1630 et les méchaniques de Galilée en 1634.
