Call for Papers

7th IASPM-D-A-CH Conference 2026 in Oldenburg, Germany

From 28 to 30 May 2026, the 7th IASPM-D-A-CH conference will take place at the University of Oldenburg, entitled: Tuning the NOISE GATE. Politics of Filtering, Selecting and Amplifying in Popular Music.

The noise gate is a dynamic signal processing element used in music production and performance to suppress aesthetically undesirable noise. It can also be read metaphorically: as a narrative, social, cultural, educational and political filter effect. In the recording studio, at the entrance of the club, in academia, in educational concepts, or on algorithmically controlled playlists, we are symbolically or literally at the gate and thus faced with the decision about what or who is too much noise.

Individual contributions and panels can be submitted. The deadline for submissions is 15 August 2025.

Contact persons are:

Susanne Binas-Preisendörfer and Sidney König
