Call for Papers

Organised by: Instituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales (ICCMU), Universidad de Salamanca (USAL) and Universidad de La Rioja (UR)

We are pleased to announce the International Conference entitled “Léxico musical en español: de los diccionarios a la prensa y otros corpus lingüísticos”, organised by the LexiMus project, which will take place in Salamanca from 16 to 17 April 2026.

The analysis of musical terminology offers a key perspective for understanding how musical discourse has evolved across various historical and cultural contexts. In dictionaries, articles, interviews, and other journalistic genres, uses, meanings, and transformations of musical lexicon are constructed, influenced both musical practice and public perception of music.

Furthermore, theoretical reflection on these issues has received considerably less attention than other topics with Spanish-language music historiography, which remains at a disadvantage compared to other languages such as Italian, French, English, and German.

This conference aims to bring together researchers, musicologists, philologists, lexicographers, and communication specialists to discuss the impact of dictionaries, musical press, and specialized publications on the construction of language about music.

The event forms part of research initiatives on musical lexicography and applied terminology, promoting reflection on concepts and their definition. Within the field of digital humanities, there will be discussion of the use of textual corpora, digital tools, and innovative proposals for the study of music and its language. We invite th e submission of proposals addressing, amongst other, the following topics:

The role of musical dictionaries in shaping and standardising musical vocabulary: documentary languages, controlled vocabularies, and music domain ontologies.*

The interaction between musical terminology, dictionaries, and the media.

Musical terminology in general and specialised press.

The impact of musical criticism on the evolution of musical language.
Design and principal challenges in digital tools for exploring and consulting musical lexicons.
