The Guitar in contemporary chamber music

We seek lectures or lecture-recitals on any type of guitar and style under one or more of the following topics:

Presentation form

- Lecture (20 min. presentation + 10 min. questions)

- Lecture-recital (35 min. presentation + 10 min. questions)

Submission

Please submit a 350-word abstract including purpose, literature review, methodology, findings (final or preliminary) using the application form below.

All lecture and lecture-recital proposals will be blind-reviewed. Do not include the author(s)’s name or other identifying details in the abstract.

Conference participants are required to register for the conference and pay the conference fee of $25 USD. Participants can attend the conference online or in-person. If attending in-person, all travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the participant(s).

Call for Scores: Chamber Works

We seek contributions for up to 8 performers, at least one, and no more than 2, should be guitar of any type.

Works shorter than 8 minutes will be given priority.

Available Instrumentation

1 fl. 1 ob. 1 cl. 1 sax. 1 tpt. 1 tbn. 2 vln. 1 vc. 1 cb. 2 gtr. 1 pno. 1 hp. 1 perc. (1 bsn. 1 hn. 1 tba. and 1 vla. may be available but not guaranteed.)

Composers may submit works for any combination of 4-8 instruments among the above instruments, with at least one guitar.

Extended techniques on each instrument allowed.

Works using electronics are welcome.

All works must have been composed after 2000.

Call for Scores: Solo, Duos, Trios and Quartets

We seek contributions for up to 4 performers, at least one of which must be guitar (any type). Guitar duos, trios and quartets are also welcome.

Any instrumentation is welcome. For this call, composers are strongly encouraged to provide their own performers if possible, but accepted scores without performers will also be offered to participating guitarists and BSU ensembles if the instrumentation is available (see above). Performance of accepted scores without performers is not guaranteed.

Works using electronics are welcome.

All works must have been composed after 2000.

Conference participants (including accepted composers) are required to register for the conference and pay the conference fee of $25 USD. Composers can attend the conference online or in-person. If attending in-person, all travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the composer.

Call for Performers and Ensembles

Guitarists and ensembles interested in performing at the conference can submit a short program of 1-3 pieces, which may include new commissions.

Any instrumentation is welcome. Performers are responsible for any additional instrumentation/musicians/specialized equipment that their program may require.

Works using electronics are welcome.

All works must have been composed after 2000.

Guitarists and ensembles with or without a program can also apply to perform works submitted in our Call for Scores. Performers who perform works submitted to our Call for Scores do not have to pay the conference fee.

Conference participants (including accepted performers and ensembles) are required to register for the conference and pay the conference fee of $25 USD, unless they opt to perform additional works submitted to the conference (see above). Performers and ensembles can attend the conference online or in-person. If attending in-person, all travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the performer or ensemble.

Please submit, if available, a link to a recording or PDF score of the work(s) you would like to perform in your short program using the application form below.

If applying with new commissions, a link to the composer’s website and/or a representative work.

If applying without a program, a link to video or audio of a recent performance or a link to the ensemble’s website.
