Marginalized Media Histories and Muted Work in Sound

November 2019, Boston
Call for Papers
Submission Deadline: April 30th, 2019
AMS Music and Media Study Group

The AMS Music and Media Study Group will offer a vibrant session on marginalized voices in music and media/technology studies at the November 2019 conference in Boston. The goal of this session is to encourage discussion of actors in our histories and narratives of music and media technologies that have not received recognition or scholarly attention in the past, with particular interest in contributions of those from marginalized racial, economic, gender, and sexuality identities. It is our hope that this session will align with broader movements in the AMS relating to global music histories and the intersections of musicology with other methods.

Please send abstracts of 250 words or less to DanaMPlank -at- gmail.com by April 30th, 2019 with “AMS Music and Media 2019” in the subject line (Word documents preferred to PDF). Do not include your name or other identifying information (such as institutional affiliation) in the abstract document itself; instead, provide these details in the body of the email. The program committee will convene and send out decisions in early May, 2019.
