The SMT Early Music Analysis Interest Group is excited to announce a conference on the analysis of early music to be held 21-22 May 2016 on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington. The conference keynote speaker will be Ruth DeFord, professor emerita at CUNY.
The conference will coincide with IU's Historical Performance Institute Conference, and we hope to create some crossover between our events. One possibility is that, since there will be many early music performers on campus, we might be able to include live performers for demonstrations in our paper sessions.
The conference program committee invites proposals on all aspects of the analysis of early music (broadly construed) for 20-minute papers (plus 10 minutes Q&A), posters, and special sessions. Submissions should include an anonymous proposal of 500 words or less explaining the subject, approach, thesis, and findings. Proposals may include up to four pages of additional materials (musical examples, bibliography, etc.). Proposals for special sessions should indicate, in the proposal document, the nature of the session, the format, any special needs, and desired amount of time (typically 60 or 90 minutes). Proposals should be submitted as an anonymous PDF attachment, and the accompanying email should include the presenter's name, institution, student/faculty status, format (traditional paper, poster, special session), equipment needs, and interest in potentially using live performers.
