The Violin Society of America’s mission is to promote the art and science of making, repairing and preserving stringed musical instruments and their bows. The objective of this year’s convention is to provide a forum for VSA members to share information and interact with others who reflect this broad and diverse range of interests and concerns.

Potential topics include:

• Craftsmanship, techniques and methods for makers and restorers
• Acoustics, practical and theoretical
• Innovation, including materials and business development
• Identification of and history of instruments and various making schools
• History of making and restoration
• Instrument related business issues and best practices
• Independent research
• Outreach to players: instrument maintenance, purchase, instrument set-up and adjustment
• Presentations may include, but are not limited to, work that has been grant-funded

Presentations will be 45 minutes to 1 hour in length including questions and discussion.  Presentations will be grouped by similar topics or themes by the Program Committee.  Presenters should anticipate audience participation, discussion and questions and answers.

All proposals will be evaluated by the VSA Program Committee for alignment with the VSA mission. As there are a limited number of presentation times available, the committee will prioritize based on relevance, the number of other proposals related to the same topic, and presenter qualifications. 

The deadline for Submissions is April 22, 2019. Selected presenters will be notified by May 21, 2019.

Presenters who elect to have their presentations considered for publication in the VSA Scroll magazine or the VSA Papers must provide a complete written version of their presentation if it is selected for publication.
