Note Biographique
Violoniste, compositeur, pédagogue, études à la chapelle palatine de Lucques (avec son père), puis avec Ambrogio Lonati à Milan. Élève de Corelli, travaille avec Scarlatti. 1707-1710, orchestre de la Signoria à Lucques. 1711, premier violon et directeur à l'orchestre du théâtre de la cour de Naples. 1714, Londres. Á la cour, il veut être accompagné par Händel et le sort ainsi de sa disgrâce. 1733, Dublin. 1734, Londres. 1737, tournée de concerts en Irlande. 1740, Paris. 1741, Londres. 1749-1755, Paris. 1756, dirige l'orchestre du comte Coote à Dublin.

Sur le contenu de l'œuvre
Il est l'un des premiers violonistes à développer la virtuosité. Dans son art de jouer du violon, il reprend les principes de Corelli, et fixe la position moderne de la main gauche.
