The University of Iowa SCI student chapter is pleased to announce a call for papers and a call for scores for its New Music Symposium, held on February 25, 2017.
We welcome submissions from graduate students, faculty members, and independent scholars in the fields of musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory. We also encourage composers interested in presenting scholarship to submit abstracts.
A) Call for papers:
Abstracts of no more than 300 words will be reviewed for 20-minute paper presentations on a range of topics related to new music. Potential topics include the composition and performance of electronic music, emerging theories of music, analysis of post-tonal works, new music and the canon, etc. We have intentionally kept the scope of this call quite broad so as to encourage a variety of submissions.

2) An abstract of no more than 300 words
3) Contact information including email address
4) A short biographical sketch of no more than 250 words
Please submit two separate documents: one with the title of the presentation and the abstract, and a second document with your contact information and a short biographical sketch.
All submissions must be received electronically. Please send submissions to Kelsey Kramer McGinnis (kelsey-kramer -at- uiowa.edu) with “New Music Symposium” as the subject line.
B) Call for scores
Composers may submit up to two works for consideration. Please contact Alexandros Spyrou (alexandros-spyrou -at- uiowa.edu) for details about the submission process and requirements for scores for the New Music Symposium.
